2012 Maxxis BDC season to be aired on national TV!

The Maxxis British Drift Championship is hugely excited to announce the partnership with Greenlight TV for our upcoming 2012 season.

What this means is each BDC round will be filmed for the 30-minute Motorsport Mundial Programme set to be aired on Channel 5 reaching 17.5 million homes in the UK.
Additionally, Motorsport Mundial will also be broadcast worldwide on Sky Sports and ESPN reaching over 600 million people worldwide!

This is the first time a TV programme dedicated to drifting has been produced for a terrestrial channel with the whole series being covered round after round in a similar fashion to the WTCC and FIA GT3 championships.

Greenlight TV will also be providing exclusive clips, round-ups and segments not only for the BDC website but also YouTube channel allowing you to watch your favourite drift series any time, any place.

Rob Hurdman, director from Greenlight Television said, ‘We are delighted to be involved in the Maxxis British Drift Championship. Drifting is one of the fastest growing motorsports and we look forward to giving it the television coverage it rightly deserves, starting with inclusion in our weekly motorsport magazine programmes which go to over 610 million homes worldwide, including Channel 5, Sky Sports and ESPN in the UK. We hope the added exposure will see the Championship go from strength to strength and we will be working with Paul, Mark and the team on a long term basis.’

Filming will begin at Round 1 of the Maxxis British Drift Championship taking place at Teesside Autodrome during the 21st and 22nd of April 2012. You can see an exclusive preview of the upcoming show Motorsport Mundial on Greenlight TV’s Vimeo page here:

Paul McCallum from the BDC said, ‘Putting the Maxxis British Drift Championship on national TV is a huge step forward for the series and for drifting in the UK.’

Speedhunters – Official Maxxis BDC media partners

The 2012 season is yet to kick off and already we’ve got some amazing news. The Maxxis British Drift Championship is proud to announce the partnership with online blog and car culture Mecca Speedhunters.com. Over the past four years Speedhunters has transformed itself into undoubtedly the largest performance-based auto website on the net, and with our 2012 season shaping up to be the biggest yet we cannot wait to start working with the whole team.

‘This is a huge announcement for both the British Drift Championship and Speedhunters.com’ explains BDC series director, Mark Buckle. ‘The standard of driving is so incredibly high and it’s a testament to the UK that worldwide media will be covering each round. We expect every driver to be giving it 110% during every single run!’

Phil Morisson

The British Drift Championship will be one of just a few carefully selected drift series exclusively covered by Speedhunters throughout 2012. With the site attracting millions of visitors every year (from a wide variety of motorsports and interests) the BDC look forward to showing all the thrills and spills the UK series has to offer. With photographer and die-hard drift fanatic Ross Ianson covering each round you can be guaranteed a fantastic set of reports.

Along with the series coverage, Speedhunters will also be supporting the British Drift Championship at the annual Trax Show taking place at Silverstone Circuit on September 2nd. After last year’s spectacle drew in more drift fans than ever before, you can guarantee 2012 will be something special! More details on this will be announced shortly.

Breaking news – Team event moved to Teesside Autodrome!

Ladies and gents

We can now announce that the annual Team Triple Drift Event will now take place at the home of the British Drift Championship – Teesside Autodrome.

The event has been hosted at Norfolk Arena for some years now and was one of the most eagerly awaited events on the calender.

The opportunity to host the event at Teesside was to good a chance to pass by. The track with its fast flowing into slow technical sections mean the event will be like no other ever hosted in the UK.

The number of teams has been growing every year since the championships inception and 2012 will be exception.

Obviously there will be a few small alterations to dates to allow this to take place so please check our events page for full details.

Many thanks

The BDC team.

2012 Maxxis British Drift Championship details

Ladies and gents

We can now officially announce details of the Maxxis British Drift Championship 2012.

The championship moves into its fifth year and is the UK’s premier professional series.

Entries to the championship are at record levels with drivers from across Europe registering their intention to take part. France, Sweden, Holland, Italy, Belgium, Portugal and Ireland to name a few!

We continue to promote the sport in a positive light with media partners across every possible medium, from online blogs, magazine features in Fast Car, Banzai Magazine, Japanese Performance Magazine, the Total Group and many more.

Viral videos, which have been viewed over a MILLION times!

We start 2012 with a stand at the Autosport Show at NEC Birmingham January 12th – 15th. The show brings together the motorsport community. From the short ovals, touring cars, sports cars, all the way up to formula one.

“We are taking drifting to a whole new audience which is a positive step forward for the BDC and drifting here in the UK” Paul McCallum – BDC director.

Each event in 2012 will take place over a minimum of 2 days. This will allow for practice and qualifying on day one. Day two will be used for the all important finals.

We will be running 3 separate classes as in 2011, Semi Professional, Professional and Super Professional. These classes are used to ensure drivers of similar standard compete on an equal level.

For the first time in the championships history we will run a minimum of a top 16 final in every class.

Run the gauntlet

Round 1 Teesside Autodrome, Middlesbrough April 21st and 22nd April

Following the return of drifting to Teesside in 2011, we return to the starting point of the BDC back in 2008. This venue offers the perfect mix of fast flowing corners mixed with tight technical sections to test drivers to the max.

Night fight

Round 2 Norfolk Arena, Kings Lynn 1st 2nd and 3rd June

We return to the venue which gives us the closest driving from at any event on the calender. With the finals run under the floodlights this is spectacle not to be missed. In addition the venue will host our annual team event. Teams of three drivers running together inches apart gets the crowds begging for more!

Return to the Thunderdrome

Round 3 Teesside Autodrome June 30th and 1st July

We return to Teeside for the second time due to the fantastic benefits the venue offers. However the track layout will be altered to offer a totally different challenge to the drivers.

King of the Hill

Round 4 Lydden Hill, nr Canterbury, Kent 11th and 12th August

We head to the far south east if the UK and return to undulating track of Lydden Hill. The dips and falls of this track means the drivers must find the perfect mix of balance and bravery to conquer The Hill.

Battle of Britain

Round 5 Silverstone, Northants 2nd September

The home of British Motorsport will be the host for round 5 for the Super Professional class. This will be the main attraction of the UK’s largest car show Trax. Entry speed of 100 mph are the norm and backwards entries will get the 15,000 strong crowd wanting more!

Judgement day

Round 5/6 Knockhill, Fife, Scotland 29th and 30th September

We head north of the border into Scotland for judgement day. We have saved the drivers favourite track until last. The first corner is not only fast but the apex is blind! Bravery, skill and perfect judgement are all required to get it right! Then its time to slow the cars down for the tricky right hander which has seen many visit the gravel that awaits.

The BDC will also be doing a number of demonstration event through out the year.

The first will be at Japfest at Castle Combe

For the first time we will be putting on a demonstration never seen at the event before.

Japfest 2 Donnington Park 8th July

We will be the main attraction at this event which is getting bigger every year! This will be YOUR chance to experience the thrill of drifting with passenger rides all day long.

“We have drivers from across Europe registering to take part in the championship in 2012, this shows  the whole BDC team will keep pushing the sport forward in the right direction.” Mark Buckle – BDC director.

The BDC team would like to wish you all a merry Christmas and a sideways new year.

Many thanks

The BDC team
