The Middle Eastern invasion to BDC Round 1

by Adam O'Connor 27th March 2018

This weekend will see the Middle East invade Rockingham Motor Speedway as Sultan Al Qassimi, Mesyar Abushaibah and Saoud Al Abdulhadi are all set to compete at BDC Round 1.

Fresh from competition in the Monster Energy Emirates Drift Championship (EDC) and the Oman Automobile Association, Sultan Al Qassimi is no stranger to UK and Irish drifting, with numerous events under his belt at this stage. Sultan has also gone head to head with the likes of Ahmad Daham and even Formiula Drift Champion, James Deane recently in the UAE and Oman and after taking home the championship victory in the first ever EDC season, you can be sure he is all set for battle this weekend.

Ex-Formula Drift driver and Irish drifting legend Darren “D-Mac” McNamara and the guys at Group-D have been working tirelessly to get Sultan and his brand new build out on track this Sunday to do battle in the Pro class, so make sure you’re plans are to be in Rockingham this weekend to see what Sultan brings, as he makes his return to the BDC!

Sultan won’t be the only driver making his way from the Middle East though. The name Mesyar Abushaibah may be familiar to some of you, as this is not the first time we’ve seen the Kuwaiti national compete in the UK, after Mesyar competed in Teesside Autodrome in 2017. Last season, Mesyar flew his insane BMW E36 to the UK for battle action, and now, after plenty of practice in the EDC and at the Oman Automobile Association, he’s back for revenge.

Saoud Al Abdulhadi, on the other hand, is an unknown to UK drifting and that’s where the danger lies. What most of the grid will remember is what happened last season at Round 1 with Oliver Evans, so with Saoud bringing a new and unfamiliar challenge to the Pro-Am class, could we have another string of upsets on our hands? Saoud, the drift judge from Kuwait, has a string of podium results under his belt from his 7-year drift career and it’s safe to say that he is certainly coming for more this weekend!

Could we possibly see BDC Pro and Pro-Am silverware heading to the Middle East this weekend? Make sure you get down to BDC Round 1 in Rockingham Motor Speedway to find out!
