With the start of the new season just around the corner, we caught up with BDC Track Manager Toby Appleton to see how he was feeling about the return of UK drifting!
It feels like the eternal offseason is coming to a close, with the ever-present threat of Covid-19 still lingering around us, we look towards the start of the 2021 season. Here at the BDC, we are ready! We survived 2020 and in my opinion, we put on quite a show for Matt Stevenson’s final year as Championship owner. It only feels like two seconds since I wrote about the changing of the guard when David Egan left a huge pair of boots to fill. Personally, I’m really looking forward to seeing what Mac Frost brings to the championship this year, we’ve had a few long chats now and I’m definitely impressed with his ideas and plans for future-proofing this already great championship.
It’s not like we are starting from scratch, that age-old saying is “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” but I guess that doesn’t mean you can’t change, tweak and add a few bits along the way.
As we head towards the start of the season there are so many new bits to look forward to and so much left to share. I’m so happy we get to visit the humble home of UK drifting Teesside twice this year, over the last few years we’ve visited it many times and seen it ran in so many different ways, which would you like to see us do?
It wouldn’t be a season without Driftland and we get to go a few times this year, with a round of Battle Royale up there as well. It’s always worth the visit especially with its raised viewing areas you’ll always catch all the action.
Three sisters is always epic for door on door battles, I think my favourite view is stood watching cars come flat out around lunar with heaps of tyre smoke, it’s super impressive to watch!
Now the big one, a custom event at a secret location. I love these events, the imagination can go wild on how to turn an area into an arena! Then you can welcome all the drifting giants from the UK to go to war in it! If you saw the events at the NEC you know exactly what I’m talking about…
Who knows it may be a one-time-only event so you’d be mad to miss out on this.
If all that hasn’t got you hyped for BDC 2021 there’s still Battle Royale and are the new feeder series, but that’s for another day.
This season is set up to be awesome, the championship definitely seems to be in safe hands and I know full well there’s so much more to come…
